In a normal year at St Colum’s, we’d be back on our pitches now.
And we know what a boost it gives us to get active when training kicks in!
Exercise makes you feel good, whether you take a walk, go for a run, or spend half an hour working on your football skills. Being active is good for your mind and body.
So, we’re asking you to step out into the fresh air
and walk 5k in your townland for #OneGoodClub.
It’s our ‘5k in 5k’ Challenge!
The ‘5k in 5k’ challenge
How can I take part?
- Walk or run ‘5k in your 5k’ – Let’s see if we can cover every Colum’s townland.
- Send us a photo of your 5k in 5k.
- Submit a ‘pass the ball’ video’ – Shout your townland’s name as you hand pass (in left, out right).
Can we stay connected?
A ‘5 a day’ approach to mental health means that staying connected remains just as important as being active!
The 5k limit means it is trickier than usual for us to connect with each other as we exercise. And connecting while you’re getting active gives you a double boost! So, we’re going to link our ‘5k in 5k’ activities digitally in an ‘Active Map’ to keep us connected while we get active apart.
As Cork’s most westerly camogie club, we know we draw in players and supporters from many townlands, villages, towns, and peninsulas (as well as from competing ladies’ football clubs!). Your pictures and clips, as well as our map, will give us the first real picture of how far the active ethos of our #OneGoodClub reaches.
St. Colum’s has a bigger catchment area than most GAA clubs in Ireland, and we want to see what our activity footprint looks like!
So we’d love it if you would walk or run your ‘5k in 5k’, then send us photos of you getting active in your own townland, town, or village. We’ll add all your 5ks in an ‘Active Map’ of our #OneGoodClub, and see how far our active ethos reaches.*
Let’s try to be active and connect as we walk every townland in our far-flung club!
You can send in your photos and clips by the end of 25th March using the secure form linked below!
* The map will not contain any identifying information.
Be Active is the second step in the One Good Club five-step youth mental health awareness programme for local clubs, developed in partnership with the Ladies Gaelic Football Association (LGFA) and Jigsaw, the National Centre for Youth Mental Health.
St. Colums LGFC is delighted to have been chosen to take part in the programme, and we really appreciate your support as we work to raise awareness of a 5-a-day approach to mental health in our club and community!
