Look up! Be aware of the world around you and of what and how you are feeling right now.
When you take notice of how you are feeling, you can take steps to maintain your wellbeing or improve it. You can also begin to appreciate all that’s good around you, setting aside some of the minor worries that can crowd in and get overwhelming at times.
Taking notice can help us catch problems and issues before they become too daunting. It can also help us to appreciate some of the things that make our lives a little better each day.
To remind us of how important it is to take notice, we’re asking you all to support our Take Notice of Our Environment challenge, as well as take care of yourself over the next two weeks!
How can I get involved?
- Join one of the litter picks we have planned (We will supply bags and pickers. Please wear gloves and masks!)
- Do a litter pick near your own home – Take notice of where there are issues and take steps to make things better.
- Take a photo of your local environment – Appreciating what’s good around you is a great step towards feeling good!
We’d love to see the photos and videos you create as you take notice of your local environment, helping to protect and celebrate its natural beauty. And we will be choosing a winning picture from your submissions, which we will print and frame and donate to Droumleigh Resource Centre. Droumleigh provides support for people with mental health issues in our community, so the care you take will help to bring a little joy into other people’s lives too.
You can send in your photos and clips by the end of 8th April using the secure form linked below.
Can we stay connected and active?
Yes! We are learning a 5-step approach to supporting our mental health, and so, by working together and getting out and about, we are using the first two mental health skills we’ve learned as we master another. A 5-step approach to mental health gives us a whole range of ways to improve and maintain our sense of wellbeing.
Take Notice is the third step in the One Good Club five-step youth mental health awareness programme for local clubs, developed in partnership with the Ladies Gaelic Football Association (LGFA) and Jigsaw, the National Centre for Youth Mental Health.
St. Colums LGFC is delighted to have been chosen to take part in the programme, and we really appreciate your support as we work to raise awareness of a 5-a-day approach to mental health in our club and community!
